 Fard I (Arabic: فؤاد الأول‎; March 26, 1868 – April 28, 1936) was the ninth ruler of the Muhammad Ali dynasty of Egypt (reigned 1917–1936), sultan (reigned 1917–1922), and first king of Egypt (reigned 1922–1936). He was the half-brother of Hussein Kamil.
 He was born in the Giza palace near Cairo as the sixth child of Ismail Pasha, the governor of Egypt. He grew up in Europe with his father who was in exile, and studied at the military academies of Geneva and Turin. On his return to Egypt in 1865, he served as a staff officer and founded the National University of Egypt.
