■ Historical Background - What is Wiener Neustadt?

Wiener Neustadt is a historic city in southeastern Austria, whose construction was planned and strategically designed: during the Middle Ages, the city was a military and economic center of great importance in Europe.

The city was built to defend itself against the Hungarian Empire, and was built as a fortress with strong walls and watchtowers. The walls were high and thick, and strategically placed watchtowers were designed to quickly detect the approach of the enemy.

It is said that part of the construction funds for Wiener Neustadt were made with the silver paid as ransom for the famous historical king Richard the Lionheart, a remarkable event in medieval European history, and that this silver was used to build the city and also to mint Austria's first silver coins.

As such, this coin is not simply a commemorative coin, but also represents an important moment in the history of European numismatics.

■ Design details

● Surface (Obverse)

The obverse depicts a medieval knight on horseback, a symbol of city-building and defense, and a strong expression of Austria's medieval identity.

The words "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH (Republic of Austria)" are engraved around the coin, and the face value is "1.5 EURO" and the year of issue is "2019".

The knight's armor, the horse's muscular body, and the detailed carvings are extremely intricate, with the sharp finish you expect from BU quality. The background features traditional decorative patterns, creating a classical atmosphere reminiscent of the designs of the East India Company era.

● Back side (reverse)

The reverse side depicts the old castle and ramparts of Wiener Neustadt. The wall structure, towers, and observation posts are meticulously recreated, providing a visual understanding of the city's defense functions.

The watchtowers on the castle walls were important facilities for distinguishing friend from foe, and also served to sound the alarm if necessary.

The design is more than just a depiction of architecture; it symbolizes national defense, strategic urban planning, and the political structure of medieval Europe.

■ Vienna Mint 825th Anniversary Series

This coin is the second in a three-part series commemorating the 825th anniversary of the Vienna Mint.

The Vienna Mint is one of the oldest mints in Europe, said to have been founded around 1194. Its history spans over 800 years, and it has been responsible for issuing Austrian currency from the time of the Habsburgs to the present day.

This series focuses on historical turning points and important cities for the Vienna Mint, and this work in particular can be said to symbolize the connection between city construction and monetary history.

■ Value of 1 ounce of pure silver

This coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.103g) of .999 pure silver.

The 1 oz silver coin is the most standard size internationally and is a highly liquid unit in the global silver market. This makes it attractive not only for collection purposes but also as a long-term precious metal asset.

The face value is 1.5 euros, but the actual silver value fluctuates based on market prices.
