 Although it is commonly known as the "Mercury Dime," the figure on the obverse is not Mercury from Roman mythology, but rather the Statue of Liberty wearing a winged hat. The reverse depicts a bundle of poles, an axe, and olive branches. It is one of the most iconic designs for American silver coins, created by Adolph A. Weinman.
