The Birth of Morgan

The Morgan dollar silver coin was created as a result of American monetary policy in the 19th century.

In 1878, the U.S. Congress passed the Bland–Allison Act.

This law mandated that the government purchase large quantities of silver and mint it as currency.

At that time, silver mining was progressing in the western United States, and large quantities of silver were being produced from mines such as the Comstock deposit in Nevada.

As a result, the amount of silver coins minted increased significantly, and the Morgan dollar was created.

George T. Morgan (designer)

The design for Morgan Doll was created by George T. Morgan.

He was a sculptor from England who was invited to work for the U.S. Mint in 1876.

His design differed from previous European-style goddess statues, adopting a model of an actual American woman for the Statue of Liberty.

The model for the character was a woman named Anna Willess Williams.

This design is highly regarded as a symbol of the American spirit of freedom and independence.

Surface design (Obverse)

The coin's obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty.

Liberty is wearing a Phrygian cap.

This hat has been known since ancient times as a symbol of freedom and liberation.

The hat is decorated with images of agricultural products.
