Egyptian 10-pound banknote: Al-Rifai Mosque / King Khafre
GoldSilverJapan presents the 10-pound banknote issued by the Central Bank of Egypt. This Egyptian banknote, with its delicate colors based on soft purple, pink, and green, is striking and allows you to enjoy two historical themes that symbolize the country—Islamic architecture and ancient Egyptian civilization—on a single banknote. The face value is 10 Egyptian pounds (10 EGP), the material is paper, and the size is approximately 150 x 70 mm.
The front of the card features a large depiction of the Al-Rifa'i Mosque, a historic building in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. This magnificent mosque, adjacent to the Cairo Citadel, was constructed from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The design centers on the meticulously rendered architecture and minaret of the mosque, combined with the name and denomination of the Central Bank of Egypt in Arabic, and intricate geometric patterns, resulting in a vibrant and dignified design that is distinctly Egyptian.
On the reverse side, a large, sideways seated statue of Khafre, a pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt, is depicted. Khafre is a pharaoh known for his deep connection to one of the three Great Pyramids of Giza, and his famous statue is one of the representative works of ancient Egyptian art. Decorative patterns spread across the background, and the English text "CENTRAL BANK OF EGYPT" and "TEN POUNDS" are placed along with a large number "10". The composition, with a mosque symbolizing the Islamic era on the front and a pharaoh from thousands of years ago on the back, evokes the long history of Egypt.
Furthermore, this banknote features a watermark inspired by the mask of Tutankhamun, the ancient Egyptian pharaoh. With elements representing Egypt—archaeology, archaeology, and pharaohs—incorporated throughout, this banknote is recommended not only for world banknote collectors but also for those with collections themed around ancient Egypt, the Middle East, and North Africa.
