history
Silver coins minted by the Republic of China from 1914 onwards were issued to replace Imperial-era coins. Designed by Luigi Giorgi, the coin features a portrait of Yuan Shikai, the president and military leader of the Republic of China, on the obverse. The coin's name comes from the Chinese "Yuán dàtóu" (literally "big-headed dollar").
