The obverse is inscribed with the French words "Travaux du Canal de Suez – Égypte (Suez Canal Construction – Egypt)" and is thought to have been used as private currency (scrip) for the workers at the time.
This token has been graded by NGC as MS64 (Mint State 64), the highest grade (Top Pop) currently in existence according to NGC statistics.
